The first step in obtaining backflow protection is to pick up the telephone and call the city public works department. Ask a few basic questions, jot down some information, and then pick up the phone once more and call one of the numbers your city official gave you. Hire that person to do a backflow inspection, hire that person to do any backflow repairs that are needed, and hire that person to do annual backflow inspection.
And then your job is done and you can stop concerning yourself about backflow protection.
Write this phone number down . . . (817) 996-2000. That number will hook you up with City Backflow Testing, experts in backflow protection. We can answer your questions about backflow protection after you read this article.
What does backflow protection entail?
It all begins with a backflow inspection. A backflow inspection of your backflow assembly will tell you whether you need backflow repair. That backflow service must be completed by a licensed and certified backflow inspector, and a complete list of backflow inspectors who are certified in your city is available at the Public Works Department in your city.
Once you have called a backflow inspector, he/she will come out and conduct an inspection of your backflow parts to make sure they are working properly. If they are not, certified backflow parts will be used in the repair. When everything is working properly, forms will be filled out and your city officials will be notified that your property has been certified for one more year. The backflow inspector will then schedule you for another backflow inspection for the following year, and contact you when that inspection is due.
What are the backflow inspection steps used in an inspection?
We use USC 10th Addition Testing Procedures:
- Notify- Notify the customer we are here for testing
- Identify- Make sure serial number is correct and that we have the right assembly
- Inspect- Make sure there are 4 test ports and 2 Shut off handles
- Observe- Attach test equipment and follow proper testing procedures for this assembly
- Test Reports- Enter values for the assemblies
- Turn in all test Reports to the local water Purveyor or City
All qualified inspectors follow the same procedures with very little variance.
How do you know if your backflow protection is all certified?
It is crucial that you use only certified backflow inspectors, certified in your particular city. Do not do a Google search and hire some plumber, who claims to be an expert in backflow, unless that plumber is certified and licensed in your particular city and again, that list of those certified is available on your city’s website.
Backflow protection is something which happens day in, day out, and happens so smoothly that most property owners are not even aware that there is such a thing as backflow protection. Again, if you have questions, you can call your Public Works Department for answers, or you can call us at (817) 996-2000. We are City Backflow Testing, certified in most cities in the Greater Fort Worth area. If we don’t have the answer to a backflow question, there probably is no answer.
