The FEBCO 860 is a reduced pressure zone assembly (RPZ) used to protect against high hazard fluids reversing flow in the water supply. The 860 is generally used in industrial plants, hospitals, morgues, mortuaries, and chemical plants, but can also be used in irrigation systems, boiler feeds, water lines and other installations which require maximum protection against contamination. Where the possibility of contamination is at its highest, there you will find the FEBCO 860 at work.
To better understand how a FEBCO 860 works there must first be an understanding of the backflow phenomenon, sometimes called back-siphonage.
Under normal conditions, water is pressurized by your water supplier so that it flows from the potable water supply to your home or business. That is how things work 99 times out of every 100 days. Pressure is supplied, water flows from the city to your home or business, and everyone is happy.
However, there are rare occasions where the water pressure supplied by the city drops in volume. This is usually due to extremely high usage of water, or high demand for water, like when there is a fire and fire hydrants are opened. In those situations, the water pressure drops and may, in fact, drop so far as to force a reversal in flow. In those situations, the reversal in flow means that contaminated water in homes and businesses can, in fact, flow back into the potable water supply, causing huge health problems. It can also happen when there are heavy rains and/or flooding, something much of the nation has seen often in the past few years.
The FEBCO 860 stops that from happening with shut-off valves which will close when water pressure drops, thus stopping contaminated water from reversing in flow. It is made of the strongest materials and can handle any situation regarding back flow.
But….even the best backflow preventer is subject to material failure, and that means that all backflow preventers must be inspected and/or repaired/replaced annually. Federal, state and local laws require annual testing of all backflow preventers, and backflow testing companies must be licensed and certified by all local municipalities. There is just too much at stake to require any less.
For affordable backflow testing, City Backflow Testing is the company to call in the State of Texas. With decades of service and an unblemished record, City Backflow Testing can be counted on to provide you with the security and peace of mind you deserve.
