Most cities and states require annual testing of irrigation backflow devices. The backflow preventers guard against a sudden decrease in water pressure which can reverse the flow of water in your pipes and potentially contaminate the potable water supply. Annual inspections are required to prevent this from happening, and the responsibility for that testing rests with the home or property owner.
Backflow testers must be certified by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality and must provide proof that certification has been obtained and their license is current. Registration with individual cities is also required.
