For additional protection against possible backflow into your basement, you could also add a floor drain backflow preventer. Usually these are check valves which are inexpensive and easy to install. What they are, basically, is a compressed rubber gasket with a floating ball mounted on a spring. It is installed into the vertical pipe of the floor drain, and if backflow occurs, the floating ball will rise and seal off the drain opening, thus preventing back flow from flooding the basement.
As with all backflow preventers, a floor drain backflow preventer must be inspected annually by a licensed and certified backflow testing company like City Backflow Testing.
