What is an average backflow testing cost in your area?
We can only answer that question for our area, Tarrant County, Texas, but we can also tell you what factors go into the determination of backflow testing cost. If you have questions give us a call at (817) 996-2000. We are City Backflow Testing and we understand backflow prevention.
Average backflow testing cost
It is nearly impossible to quote an average cost for backflow testing which will apply throughout the United States. We have seen figures as low as $65 for an annual backflow test, and we have seen figures as high as $300. It is our experience that an average cost, just for a systems test, will cost in the $100-$150 neighborhood. There are so many factors which go into this cost, making it very hard to settle on just one cost.
Factors which are in play regarding backflow inspection rates
If the backflow system was not properly installed originally, it may be difficult to actually access the testing port, making the cost of the job higher. Using a certified backflow tester rather than an uncertified plumber will mean a higher cost (by the way, all cities require certification).
And then we move on to circumstances which require backflow repair and/or new backflow parts. If it determined that backflow repair is necessary, the cost estimate is impossible to give based on a pretend scenario. Every instance is unique.
The standard steps taken during a backflow test
Using our procedure as an example, this is what you can expect during a backflow inspection:
Notify- Notify the customer we are here for testing
- Identify- Make sure serial number is correct and that we have the right assembly
- Inspect- Make sure there are 4 test ports and 2 Shut off handles
- Observe- Attach test equipment and follow proper testing procedures for this assembly
- Test Reports- Enter values for the assemblies
- Turn in all test Reports to the local water Purveyor or City
Now other companies may use different steps, but ours are based on accepted industry standards using the Clean Water Act of 1972 as a guideline, in accordance with the State of Texas.
We are fully aware that we have not given a definitive answer to the question of backflow testing costs, but we have shared the best information based on our extensive knowledge of this subject. Again, for specific costs for a specific company, it will be necessary to call that company and ask for a detailed estimate. Shop around and ask several backflow companies n your area. As long as those companies are licensed and certified, you can rest assured that the backflow inspection will be handled properly. Your city has a list of approved backflow testers for you to choose from.
