From the FEBCO website is this description of their product the FEBCO 825Y:
“The FEBCO Series 825Y Reduced Pressure backflow preventer are used to protect against high hazard (toxic) fluids in water services to industrial plants, hospitals, morgues, mortuaries, and chemical plants. They are also used in irrigation systems, boiler feed, water lines and other installations requiring maximum protection.”
Let’s discuss further this piece of backflow equipment and its importance. If, after reading this, you have questions, call us at (817) 996-2000.
Halting backflow
That’s what the FEBCO 825Y is all about, backflow prevention! For the uninitiated, backflow is the sudden reversal of water flow in a water system. Instead of clean, potable water flowing from the city’s water supply to businesses and homes, it reverses direction and contaminated water flows back towards the city’s water supply. How does this happen? It happens when there is a sudden drop in the water pressure which is responsible for transporting that water through the system.
This backflow happens more often than you might think.
Whenever a fire hydrant is opened to fight a fire, the water pressure will drop in the surrounding area. Whenever there is a major leak to a water main, the water pressure will drop. In point of fact, it happens enough times during a normal year that Federal regulations were finally passed in the 1970s requiring the use of back flow preventors, like the FEBCO 825Y, to guard against the dangerous occurrence of backflow.
How does the FEBCO 825Y work? Dual zone assemblies consist of two valves with a pressure zone between them. The whole system works in a detection basis. When there is a drop in water pressure, the valves shut down and do not allow water to reverse flow, thus preventing backflow. The beauty of the FEBCO 825Y is that it has test cocks which allow backflow testers to check the workability of the backflow device without taking the entire device apart. In other words, backflow testing is a fairly easy process as long as it is done by a licensed and backflow-certified testing company.
The FEBCO 825Y is one of the preferred backflow devices for major jobs, jobs where the flow of water is at its greatest in a city. Check out the list above…industrial plants, hospitals, morgues, mortuaries, an chemical plants. Those are the big boys of any industrial area, and they are the primary concern of any city water system. If the pollution of a water system is going to happen it will most likely happen at one of those facilities during a backflow event.
And the FEBCO 825Y stop that from happening!
We are City Backflow Testing, and it is our job to prevent backflow from happening using backflow devices like the FEBCO 825Y. We are licensed and certified in most cities in the Greater Fort Worth area, and backflow is our primary business. We stand by the FEBCO 825Y, and you should too.
