RPZ Backflow refers to Reduced Pressure Zone backflow.  A RPZ is a backflow preventer device which protects the potable water supply by preventing backflow from happening.  This is accomplished by preventing back pressure or back siphonage, which causes water to reverse direction in your pipes, thus sending contaminants back into the city water supply.
